How to get a marriage license in Texas

HONOLULU (AP) You can get a license to marry anywhere in the state.

But you must apply for one in Houston.

That means Houstoners can’t get married in San Antonio or Austin without going through the same application process.

The new law makes Houston the only city in the country that doesn’t require a special marriage license.

Houston’s law is a major step forward for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

The state legislature passed the bill in April.

The law requires that applicants get a medical evaluation and get written permission from a licensed doctor before they can apply for a license.

If the medical exam is negative, applicants must apply in person or by mail.

The fee for a Texas license is $100.

Houston is the first city in Texas to offer marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

A similar ordinance passed in San Diego last year.

But the bill faces a big challenge in the courts.

Last month, the Texas Supreme Court ruled in a case brought by the state’s ACLU that the state can’t bar marriage licenses based on a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.

That ruling was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court.
