California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Massachusetts-Lowell, New York, Vermont, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin have the lowest rates of divorce, according to a new study.
The study, conducted by the University of California-Los Angeles’s Institute for Family Studies, found that in 2016, just one in seven marriages in California ended in divorce.
Hawaii had the highest divorce rate, at 10.6 percent, followed by Vermont (9.4 percent), Massachusetts (8.6), and New York (7.9).
In contrast, the state with the highest rates of marriage registration, California, had just one marriage per 2,000 couples in 2016.
The study also found that the state had the most marriages per capita, at 12.7 marriages per 1,000 people.
The state with a divorce rate that was the highest was Washington, where 5.4 divorces per 1.2 million people were registered in 2016; Hawaii had just 1.9 divorces, according the study.
